A sun room can add a lot of value to your home, and can become a place of retreat, an extra space for guests, or that extra room when you have a gathering at your home.
The key to adding value to your home with a sun room, is for it to look like it has always been there as part of the house, and to look like it was planned to be there from the beginning.
The elements of the sun room should match your home inside and out.
1.) The painted siding or brick should match the existing home.
2.) The windows and doors should match the existing home.
3.) The inside painted wall and ceiling finishes should match the existing home.
4.) The roof should match and be tied-into the house correctly.
5.) The electrical outlets and fans or lights should complement the existing house.
6.) It should be planned in such a way as to be easily accessible, and landscaped correctly.

The screens were replaced with windows.
The exterior siding was removed and replaced.
The door was replaced.
The floor was refurbished.
The roof was repaired.
Electrical wiring was modified, and a fan was added.
The interior walls were replaced with gypsum and painted.
The windows and doors were cased in pine trim.

The old floor was not adequately supported, so it was demolished and the correct size floor supports were installed. Tongue and groove plywood was installed on top of the rebuilt floor, and later wood flooring was installed over the plywood.

A new set of double French doors were installed to separate the sun room from the main house. This is a common way to close off a sun room when it is not desired to heat and cool the room. Most sun rooms do not have their own heating or air conditioning, so it is important to have a door that can open and close the sun room to the main house.
